  • Lewis' Recent Purchases

Just found out he bought a Hellcat from England in February and most recently purchased Planes of Fame's Connie and plans to restore it to flying condition.

Everytime someone puts an airplane into flight condition is a Great News!
But a Connie, that´s more than that.

Connie's are one of my favorite airplanes. Thanks Mr Lewis.

Hmmm interesting, so the Hellcat would almost have to be the Fighter Collections example, and how cool will it be to see another Connie in the air.. All thats needed is someone with rather deep pockets to get an EC-121 back into the air as tribute to the Airforce and Navy AEW&C pioneers

Wouldn't it be cool if he decided to bring the Connie to Reno? Can you imagine that thing going 'round the pylons?
Might be a problem parking it in the pits though….

Hey we always complain about the pits being rather empty, why not fix that problem with only one additional entry?!

It would be awesome. I think it would shadow Clay Lacy´s (I wasn´t there) DC-7. The Connie is a beautiful big airplane by itself and add low passes to it, GREAT MOMENT!

Yes indeed, the TFC Hellcat it is. I was REALLY hoping that the airplane was going to Planes of Fame but at least there is a good chance of seeing it at the PoF airshow while Lewis owns it.

Bunch of former AMSA connies in Puerto rico though I believe one has already been appropriated.

I worked there a bit at Miami international in 1989 after the eastern strike/fold.

Lufthansa Technik is going to fix/repaint a connie for static display at their new facilities in the Rafael Hernandez Airport in the west side of the island. They are going to be doing work on the fleet of Airbus airplanes for Jet Blue. The connie had been languishing for many years at the airport after it was hit in the wing by an other Aircraft. Yes it was an AMSA plane. Here are some pics.

The Connie that Mr Lewis bought, is that the one at the AZ museum? I believe it was a General's airplane.

It was General Douglas MacArthur's airplane.

I guess they moved "cockroach corner" out of Miami international to aquadilla.

Douglas MacArthur's plane, named Bataan, resides at the Planes of Fame Museum in Valle, AZ. I have visited it many times. Sadly it sits outdoors, where I believe it experiences too much deterioration. Are you saying this plane has been sold? If true, I presume it will find a better home. And especially if restored to flying condition, what a beautiful sight and sound it will make for all to enjoy.
