  • Video. California 1000. Clay Lacy flies a 4 engine DC-7.

    Who was there?

Can you imagine a 4 engine DC-7 flying the course a 50-100 above the ground? Must have been a site to see.

The race lasted 2 hours 52 minutes. On November 15th 1970, 20 planes entered the California 1000 air race in Mojave California. The race was 1000 miles in total: 66 laps around a 15 mile track. Planes that flew in the race ranged from P51 mustangs to a DC7 named "super snoopy" flown by Clay Lacy.
