Tough to feel sorry for them, especially after the clueless local sportscasters spent the entire week preceding the event referring to it as the "worlds fastest motorsport" and declaring it to be much safer than NCAR (even snidely recalling the tragic crash in '11).
I've lived here in the Las Vegas Valley since '92 and have been coming to NCAR since '94; for all the years that I have lived here the local press have virtually ignored the event. Seems to be some sort of juvenile Las Vegas vs. Reno mentality instead of celebrating what should be considered a great event for all of Nevada.

In California there is a never ending fight about who is better: San Francisco or LA. San Francisco is certain they are best....and LA is unaware there is a fight....I get the same feel between Vegas/ Reno.

Actually, RARA had a presence, as far as I know, most of the time down there. I do know that their (RARA) main concern was to ensure that well established procedures were adhered to ensure that the event went off safely.
Pretty much in line with what they have always attempted to accomplish with any "off site" air racing events..
Realizing how off topic this response is to the subject, after reading the initial header to this messate... I will end this post with a personal thought.. I admire innovators, I dislike those who "steal" from innovators......

To clarify a bit further; I believe that the Las Vegas side of the equation is totally at fault for dropping the ball, by failing to adequately support and promote aviation events both locally and in Reno.
Just like events that I had previously attended in Sherman Texas (1990) and the Phoenix events in '94 and '95; it was heartbreaking to see them not supported and continued in those areas. Same for the demo race they had here at Aviation Nation some years back.

Re: Vegas Red Bull Races Cut Short by High Winds
The Red Bull event was terrible to say the least. Reserve seats were a rip off as you were all crammed in one section and not allowed to move closer to the start pylon area as I had requested.
I am sure this is fun for the pilots but it sucks for spectators and all you can hope is it lifts interest in real Air Racing. Think of NASCAR, NHRA or even bicycle racing with one person racing a clock, no one would like any race event with one participant.
Thanks, KC

To me it is a "oh this is on tv obviously I will watch it over the other garbage on tv". Don't see the need to attend one anytime soon though.Reno from '99 to '22
