528 was done with nitrous.
In May of 2012 I was witness to 566 with no nitrous during test flights prior to a 3km attempt.

Grampi, please don't be that naive. I admire your staunch adherence to the V-12's, as I adhere primarily to the roundies...just a matter of preference. But if anyone has insider info on Rare Bear's history, it's ChrisMX105. Check your source before you attempt to dismiss it.

The reason I don't believe it is because of what was said by Penny or Shelton (who was piloting Bear during the record attempt, you guys can help me out with that one) which was he felt they could've gone 540 if the juice would've held out...if he actually said that, then why would anyone believe it could do 566 WITHOUT juice? It sounds to me like they would've had to have every ounce of power the engine could possibly make to do 540...

I don't know why people think I'm a V-12 fanboy, and that I hate the roundies, that simply isn't the case. What I am into are facts and the fact is planes like Dago Red, and Strega for certain, and now probably Voodoo as well, are (or were, in the case of Dago) considerably faster than RB ever was...that doesn't make me a V-12 fanboy, I'm simply stating facts...whether you like them or not is not my problem...

MAYBE because it has been YEARS since that record run and there have been improvements to The Bear's airframe since then......

23 years of development and refining of aerodynamics and systems.
The engine used during the 3km record was 4200hp with Nitrous, The engine from 2012 was capable of more without.
The boiloff system was a significant drag reduction.

2008 Blew up due to engine being damaged from overtemping oil during the gear problem.
2009 2nd with Fifi motor (First year of boiloff)
2010 Gold cancelled due to wind
2011 ..................
2012 Mayday due to crimped ADI vent line
2013 First year with changed crew and induction
2014 Mayday on Sunday due to ADI "Burp"

So in 8 years there have been 6 opportunities to win.
1 first place
1 second place
1 finish (4th I believe)
and 3 maydays

Look at Voodoo, I believe they have 14-15 years and only 2 wins.

True, but look at how Mustangs have dominated over the last 15-20 years...that tells me the Mustang guys have gotten better at finding ways to make their planes faster than the RB guys have...
