    Hey Wayner and all you gearheads, why not just paint a centerline between the pylons and the out of bounds (or whatever they call the deadline now), measure that, and call that the length of the course? Everyone knows you can't fly directly over the pylons, and you can only go so wide, too.
    There, fixed that, no problem.

      So what you're saying is, we should just put a GPS in each airplane so we know exactly how far each flew (and why not make that in 3 dimensions?) between the start and finish and let the contest committee sort it out after the event? I'm sure Tiger would have been happy with that on Saturday. The new calculation isn't actually achievable either as it would still involve contact with the pylons.

      Nope, I'm still back calculating speeds like Idaho Cowpony.
