Planning a trip to Chicago and was thinking this would be a good resource for info about aviation venues in Illinois. Saw there was an Air Museum at Chanute and of course Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Any other reccomendations?

Southwest of Chicago, you have the Grissom Air Museum in Peru, IL. If small, obscure museums are your thing, the Deke Slayton Memorial Space and Bicycle Museum in Sparta, WI is about 200 Northwest of Chicago. However, Slayton's Formula 1 racer is not in this museum. I believe it's at Planes of Fame in Chino, CA.

This website lists air museums by state. Enjoy!

The Russell Military Museum is North of Chicago just off 94 south of the Wisconsin border.

You could maybe call Midwest Aero in Danville, Illionios (KDVN) 217-431-1998 and ask for a tour of the shop. They restore P-51's there and have a BF-109 project they are working on.
          They have a website, too.
