  • Mig down at Stead

Local news is saying a Mig-21 overran the runway and down a hill at Stead this morning. Pilot with minor injury's.
One account says he was landing, one says failed takeoff.
Sounds like he went into Hoover Gulch.
Anyone out there know more? I'm at work and a slave to the &&^%%y news reports.

I heard they had to "secure" the ejection seat before they could extricate him. I learned about that in Medic school. You don't want to be standing over the pilot and have the seat fire. It would wreck your whole day.

Not to mention that the MiG-21 has notoriously very high takeoff and landing speeds....

A very knowledgeable guy once told me something I won't forget about Mig 21's:

"If your nose wheel has brakes, it just ain't right."
