  • Saga of Buried Spitfires Continues

Heres a article from 3 weeks ago in the Birmingham Mail

Some interesting quotes at the end of the article opens new intrigue.

"The 62-year-old farmer has been hunting for the Spitfires for 16 years, spending tens of thousands of pounds in his quest to find them.

He said that he also plans to investigate rumours of Spitfire parts buried in Birmingham on his return to the UK.

Among those suggesting that some of the planes are buried in Castle Bromwich are Matt Queenan, aged 83, from Hall Green.

He says he was employed, under contract to the Home Office, to grease up Spitfires and pack them into crates ready to be buried.

“You don’t need to go all the way to Burma,” he said

“There are plenty buried here in Birmingham.”

Retired steel worker Herrick Lucas, aged 82, from Selly Oak, claimed an old neighbour who worked at the Spitfire factory told him planes were buried just yards from the plant, at the junction of Kingsbury Road and Chester Road in Castle Bromwich."

Well I did Google the location

Not much empty land available to search seems like something would have been found during the build up over the years

    Interesting anyway for inquiring minds.
