The Bearcat's wing to fuselage are integral structures. The fuselage has a production break behind the cockpit, #77 has been apart there a couple of times during restorations.

Yes the owner does have other airplanes, but the Rare Bear is sooo much different from any other air frame in his collection. Apart from 1 or 2 other air frames, the Rare Bear is totally different, with all the major modifications done to her, she is not something you can just 'grab a handful and turn them loose' on as she is a totally different animal to work on, read what others who have had experience with her have said, so many systems and so many parts are unique to her that to send people out to try and figure out how she lives and breaths without guidance from others who have helped keep her flying invites major major trouble that could be fatal, not just to the bear, but bears crew and or driver.

Talk about hitting a nail on the head!

Crews not familiar with the Bear's systems dangerous? Like venting the ADI tank into the hydraulic tank... that dangerous??

Kiwi... you sure you don't live out at Stead????

          Wayne,

The ADI wasnt vented into the hydraulic tank....
The QEC Block seal was ruptured causing the fluid mix & a 3in1 gauge that has an AD on it (about mixing fuel & oil pressures)was another issue...
Stew Dawson Found the problem with the QEC Block, Something Dave was unaware of...
Jim Dale Found the issue with the Edison 3in1, another thing Dave was unaware of...

You guys belive everything but the facts...

Indeed, but since whoever is going to be dealing with it in Texas likely has no hands on experience, you are dealing with the same issue either way. The difference being sending those people to Reno to figure things out, or take the plane apart, spend a fortune trucking it to Texas potentially risking damage to the aircraft in transit only to face the challenge of trying to figure things out down there. Its sort of a 6 of one half dozen of another really. Granted, its a lot warmer in Texas. Either way its going to cost a bundle.

As for the cooling issues that supposedly don't exsist, why did they back out of the finals and the race on Sat, and Friday, last year? I heard a lot of things being tossed around the pit on Friday night. Evednetly they didn't find or fix the issue by Sunday. I'm also guessing the issue still hasn't been fixed since no one has been working on it. From the sound of it, its not an issue found at anything but race speed, but still, something tells me that what ever the issue was, it hasn't been fixed. Now there is a new group of people trying to sort an unknown very unique creature out over the span of a few months. I'm not saying it can't be done, but the learning curve is going to be very steep.

I wish them the best of luck and really hope to see the bear sitting on the ramp in Sept in healthy race ready form.

Right on will. The Bear needs to be in Reno this sept.

$50,000 , as Mr lewis would say, "chump change".

The Bear has been delivered safely and is already being worked on in Nelson's hangar.

That's great news - and a relief to many, I think. I sincerely hope the Mr. Lewis' new plan is successful.
