Cut flying hours by 20%.2.Prepare for possible end to all noncombat or noncritical flights from July thru Sept.3.Force a civilian hiring freeze.4.Cancel Airshow appearances & flyovers.5.Slash Base improvements & repairs by 50%.6. Widespread civilian furloughs. Thanks to the upcoming billions of dollars in automatic cuts being triggered. (Air Force internal memo) Shades of Clinton era.

To be fair, the USAF drawdown of the 90s was charted by officials in the Bush 41 Cabinet as part of the "peace dividend".

That's the way the Canoe Club brass presented it to us at the time too...flying hours, aircraft, fuel, equipment, everything in drawdown...but the threat wasn't there to the same extent either.

What does any of that have to do with USAF budget cuts?

It doesn't. He likes using AAFO as a pulpit for the fact that he doesn't like the current Presidential administration. Not the first thread-hijack.

It bothers me to watch this country go downhill. I listed some of the reasons why it's going downhill if you care to read them and do some research on them. That will confirm it.

It's not just Obama and family, it's much of the Government Employees spending the taxpayers money foolishly.

Do some research and confirm it for yourself or turn your back on it and watch this country go downhill.

It's not hijacking. It's part of the topic. I'm just responding to others comments.

And like I said the LAST time you tried 'not-hijacking' a thread with something political, I'll say take it somewhere else. This is a forum about air racing and airshows.

I agree with Big... the original post, at least, was aviation related, therefore, met the criteria of "on topic"...

Please don't post political diatrabs... at least in this forum, take it down to the graffiti section.

Re: Air Force Budget Cuts 2013

I wonder how the cutting of flight hours is going to affect safety, with less currency training, etc.
Is the hourly cost of maintenance a constant? In my limited experience some costs (time limited items) reduce per hour (or mile) the more a piece of equipment is used. Is it the same with the multi million dollar aircraft?
                    Randy might know.

Re: Air Force Budget Cuts 2013

                      Leo,

I think I understand what you are saying.

Let's say my hanger costs $600.00 per month.
If I fly 1 hour a month, the cost is $600.00 per hour
If I fly 10 hours a month it would be $60.00 per hour
                      and for 100 hours, $6.00.

But what if I flew 0 (zero) hours per month...
