Should I be looking skyward for an arrival, or is this too far south ?

Lyle used to fly the Bear from Van Nuys every year, couldn't make it non stop and Mojave was a favored stop ~ He flew it to the East Coast as well, so it can be done

That was before it had a boiler...

Cross country flight can be done with a boiler, All it requires is multiple chase crews stationed to meet and service the airplane. Greenamyer flew Conquest 1 to the Smithsonian with a boiler, Just took a while. I heard he flew one leg a day from Cali and had his wife chase him with the equipment required to service in a pickup.

It can be done, trouble here is, looks like most everyone who's able and has the knowledge about the systems on the airplane has been "fired"... Sad thing, last time Rod "took over" the program, there was talk of just removing the boiler, since it is problematic in its nature and without the guy/s who designed and installed it and its supporting systems in the background, it don't work... If it (boiler) comes out, will the airplane ever come back to Reno? If it does, we will never get to see the full potential achieved.. very sad, indeed, if this is the case..

Oh well, as is often said, about the off-season of this sport...... "as the propeller turns"...

Actually the boiler had evolved to the point where it was "fill and forget" or as close as could be gotten on such a fickle beast.........

It's Rod's airplane. He can do anything he wants to it.
He has plenty of smart people around him to figure out how to get it to where he wants it to be. He spent major dollars fielding the racer over the last six years and has one win. He has every right to change direction.

If the crew chief didn't show so much disdain towards the pilot, perhaps things may have ended differently.

Lots of finger pointing plus no results equal change of plans.
