          That scheme looks like Furious'.
I wonder if Mike CArroll hesitated a few days before stripping that paint?

Looks like she had an issue in 1971
The Hawker Fury registry follows the history of all Furys and Sea Furys that survived military service.

Yep -- got quite badly bent. That was one of the incidents that conviced Americans that the Centaurus engine really is not amenable to hopping up and over revving. That motor had been beat on hard in the months before the engine failure, and those sleeve valve motors don't like that...

Hope, she will be repaired and be back at the 50th Races next year.

It's been a long-known maxim that radials don't take rpm above red line very well.

If they weren't racing it before the incident, I doubt they will be after it's been repaired.

It's been quite a while now since it was last seen turning pylons...

Miss Merced looks every inch the racer. Does anyone know why the current owners haven't brought her to Reno since the early 2000's? I hate to even say it, but I'm surprised they haven't gone back to stock!

Looking at the pic from 1971, I was wondering if anyone knew what the canopy was from? or was it scratch built.

That canopy was built for the airplane in 1966 when it was the "Signal Sea Fury" owned by Mike Carroll. It was a custom-blown canopy. It didn't become "Miss Merced" until it was purchased from the Carroll estate by Dr. Sherman Cooper in 1969.

For many years that canopy was in the Sanders family hangar at Chino and then Ione. But I believe that it was given to Michelle McKintrick a couple years ago...Michell was Mike's niece.

I thought it was, except for paint?
