  • OT... First Flight

Hi all, just a quick piece of news from NZ today...
Gerry Yagen's restored DH Mosquito FB 26 KA114 has flown for the first time today... This is the first Mossie to take flight since the mid 1990s
Sorry i havent got any pics, but i will find the news feeds and link them later!
This has been a massive undertaking that wouldnt be possible without the dedication of Kiwi Glynn Powell who has created the moulds to rebuild the wooden wonder and Warren Denholm and his superb team at Avspecs based in Auckland.
those in the know, will know the Avspecs name from the superb restoration of Rod Lewis's stunning mk V spitfire.

          Re: OT... First Flight

here is a video of the take off for the second flight, the first flight took off from Ardmore airfield south of Auckland and the first landing was made at Auckland International to take advantage of the long wide approaches and airfield.
On the second flight from Auckland, Long time NZ warbird pilot Keith Skilling was at the controls, Keith's Day job is a Air New Zealand Boeing 777 captain.

such a different sight at NZAA compared to the normal boeings, Airbuses etc normally seen

Not so OT. Two different MK 25's flew in the 1948 and '49 Bendix cross country races.
                      Really cool airplane.

That is just awesome. Congrats. Its good to see that there are still people out there putting in the time, effort and money to get these great pieces of history back in the air. Hopefully this will inspire the next generation to continue that pursuit.
