    RIP commander Neil Armstrong.

Neil was the pilot of the Eagle, and was the one who landed it.

BY HAND if I remember right. Last second obstacles and he almost ran out of fuel.

        Bzzzzzzz wrong on the titles......

        Neil Armstrong - Commander
Buzz Aldrin - Lunar Module Pilot
Mike Collins - Command Module Pilot

However, Neil was piloting the Lander at the time.

          Re: Armstrong is gone

I'm watching the documentary "Failure was not an option" about the NASA program. Armstrong was instrumental in so many facets of the program (both Gemini and Apollo), but beyond that the X-15 flights and his military service, he was a PILOT!.

They quoted the passage from Apollo 8 when Borman,Lovell and Anders rounded the moon and said "In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth........." It kinda takes you to expand on that and say "on the EIGHT day, God created the PILOT" Those guys that slip the surly bonds are truly a cut above. That goes for ALL of them: Jimmy, Howard, Gary,Lyle,.......the list goes on,both here and gone. Neil was one of them.

          To the pilots!

I wasn't speaking of titles, but rather his role in the landing event. The lack of a capital "P" when I typed "pilot" sez so

Neil was flying the Eagle during the landing as agreed, the pilot-in-command if you will, with his hand on the stick and Buzz calling out altitude and other data. Therefore describing Neil as "pilot of the Eagle" was a correct statement. The defense rests.
