    Re: A new Wingman quiz...

Gutsy delivery flight to the US. There were a lot of gutsy overwater ferries back then.

Here's a hint, kids...based on Chris' post above. The airplane was named for where it came from....

As always, nice pictures there Sledge. This was all a bit before my time, so I know little about it all...

So this was a US civil Mustang that was ferried to the Philipines? I had always assumed that it was an ex-Philipine military aircraft.

Who flew it over? What were those big tanks from?

                    prepared by Aerosport

ferry pilot to PI was "Jim"... (no longer remember last name...but possibly Froude)

                    source of tanks unknown

Thanks Sledge -- I learned something here, which is one reason I post these things...

Here's a somewhat more recent shot, by Birgitta. There may well not be enough clues here but you all do sometimes surprise me so we'll give it a try. Plus, I think it's a really great photograph.

                      So -- what year??

I think there's plenty of clues, Neal.

Let's examine....first off, the dude sitting in the cockpit. He was there "x" years.

Second, there are people in the stands...obviously a championship race and year there 'was' one.

Third, the weather...blue skies. During the "x" year tenure, there was at least one sand storm, and one in the pouring rain.

Fourth, the font used on the cowling was also there for "Y" number of years...but the years that the pilot raced (x) doesn't line up congruently with the font (y).

Thusly, it can only reason that the photo was taken in.......

Pretty good deducing there Brad -- I think you've got it. I was wondering whether the weather would help anybody.
