I've been kicking this idea around for a couple weeks. When it comes to making the Reno Races more cinematic, if I could disregard safety and practicality, where would I park a camera drone?
These doodles are the result of that thought experiment.
First I took the screenshot in the bottom right corner and, using that as my background, overlaid 3D models of the planes until the scale, position, and orientation all matched.
From there I could rotate the whole scene 360 degrees until I found an angle that "looked cool". I took screenshots of each of those angles and recolored them in Photoshop. That was a lot of work though, so next time I'll probably use the in-software coloring and rendering controls instead.
