Congrats young man. You are a natural for that position.
I'll hoist couple in your honor here real soon.

Count me in that group. My first Reno was '97, and when Strega and the Bear came around 8 and past the home pylon on that first lap....man, that sound!! I knew right then I was a fan for life.

Bill,
Nice shots. We could all hope she comes back to grace our skies again.
What was the story with tail wheel?
Thanks for sharing.

Took another look (do that a lot here checking out all the great shots), reminds me of a bird of prey at speed.
Awesome paint scheme.

Re: Random Shot Of The The Day
Yeah, I really liked Furias and was very hopeful that they would show us a good run that year. The tail wheel was just a by-product of the aircraft not having that much time on the course. Whatever testing was done probably did not involve closely observing he underside of the aircraft as it pulled Gs at speed. I'm sure it would have been fixed if other, far bigger issues did not come up at the end of this flight. I do hope to see a race-prepped Furias again. And I do see the Bird of Prey.

Yep...Reno Fire or USAF snorkel truck washing them down at sunrise. Don't get me wrong...love the new gig. That said, leaves little time to kill pixels :( so most of my posts are, shall we say, dated? At least as it relates to my days at Reno.
Always a pleasure to read about the history of this sport. We owe a debt that cannot be repaid to those who came before us and made sure we can still hear, "Gentlemen, You Have a Race!" every September.

I in no way meant to disparage the good Doctor. His 'sponsorship story' is a great part of Reno legend.
I was just offering some further background on the history of the airplane and why there was a sponsorship area 'available'.

Brad,
On shots like that, did the camera capture the focus of the plane before the pylon and stay locked in, or did you have a preset manual focus for the plane?
