  • Lyle Shelton tribute

A while back there was a poem from one of the crew of the Rare Bear in tribute to Lyle. I saved it at the time but somehow it got lost in cyberspace(should have made a hard copy) and I would love to get another copy of it if possible.

I'll look it up and post it for you. It was actually an updated version of the 1930s era poem "Race Gear" Bill Noctor Sr. Updated the poem for a tribute to Lyle in the 1980s

    A saddle on a motor
    burning dynamite for gas
    with as little lifting surface
as will hike it off the grass.
    4,000 leaping horses
With a feather for a girth
    500 miles per hour
    50 feet above the earth
The breed of man who rides her
    is an optimistic guy
    with magic in his fingers
    and a telescopic eye.
