Re: Idea!!!
I like it. I miss the atmosphere the races had not too long ago. Reno was a buzz about the race. There were planes under the canopy at what's now the Grand Sierra not to mention the old bar. Speedweeks in Daytona used to be the same way. You could go down there and eat sleep and breath stock car racing all week. There were TV shows and radio shows being done in hotel ballrooms covering the sport. You could just walk in and see your favorite drivers. The sponsors were throwing parties it was a real destination.
It almost seems like if you aren't in Stead you wouldn't know the race was going on. I always thought it was cool to have a plane in the lobby of the Silver Legacy really set the tone for the week like it was something special.

Re: Idea!!!
They had a Cassutt at the GSR during Hot August Nights and a booth for RARA. Having something like that in several lobbies (are there aircraft that could sit static all week?) would be a reminder that it is happening.
Other wise, a couple of billboards, a banner here and there, an obligatory article every day in the RGJ and a 2 minute spot on the morning news is about it. During most of the other events (Rib cook-off, Hot August Nights, etc, we are bombarded constantly.

Re: Idea!!!
I remember the downtown parades well, plus they used to park some of the airplanes along Virginia street on display, they had vendor booths set up along the street selling a bit of everything plus music, food ~ it was a pre race party atmosphere ~ you needed a reservation arrival time to fly into Reno due to excessive air traffic. Was a whole different program

Re: Idea!!!
I missed the parades, never made it into town once I was set up at Stead.
We were downtown for the staged parade for TOR and the streets were packed though. That would drum up some interest.
I find a lot of locals either don't know about them, don't care or think they should be banned for a variety of reasons from fuel use to safety. The rest are fans!
