  • Will Reno have a jet team in 2018?

I (sorta) know the answer, and the reason there wasn't one this year. Anyone want to take a guess???

I have no idea who might be coming or why they didn't have one this year, but I would just like to say that I thought TFLM was outstanding and one of the best performers Reno has had. Seeing that collection of airplanes was an amazing opportunity for everyone there.

    Thank you TFLM!!!

Agreed! I hope they come back to race a couple planes next year!

Reno had "less" attendants in 2017 because of the lack of a jet team, but they did have an increase in attendants there for racing. More "fans" less "attendants", take it as you will

Yes but only one day. USAF Thunderbirds for Wednesday, 12Sep18. They then go on to NY Airshow.

Not wrong only half the story though (or I guess 1/5 of the story)

Not privy to any other factors that went into a one-day show but regardless, it's better than no jet team at all. Here' hoping Reno is in the mix for a jet team in 2019. We'll know in less than two months...

Think North! It'll hopefully be confirmed in a month...

That is a very interesting observation. I really enjoyed the TFLM and would like to see them back.

One of my favorite things about this year was no jet demo team. TFLM did a bang up job and I truly enjoyed their performances. They have really cool planes that tbey fly the crap out of. Jet demo teams are completely boring to me and it's at least an hour of each air race day devoted to them. I get that it puts butts in seats but personally, I'd rather see that money go to the purse for racing. Either that or keep bringing TFLM.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

I second this motion! TFLM was great and a joy to watch both during their routine and on the course! I would take them over a Jet team at Reno any year ... Especially if it somehow translates to more prize money for the racers.

I agree 100%, Tora was great and TFLM was even better! I like seeing the Blues and Tbirds, but I see them a half dozen times a year anyway. Snowbirds are very boring to me and I'll take TFLM over them any day.

But yes we are most likely getting the Snowbirds for 2018, they were supposed to be there this year. And from there hopefully the Blues or Tbirds for 2019.

If it were as easy as it sounds to take the money spent on a jet team and put it into the purse, it would've been done already. VERY rarely is money put straight into the purse through sponsorship, donations are different... Donations are actually one of the only ways that money gets put into the purse, usually sponsorship helps out with the costs that RARA has to deal with to make the show happen.

Interesting. I enjoy the Snowbirds very much and so I'm hoping they do in fact return to Reno. The large formations and the ability to stay closer to the crowd stand out as real pluses to me.

Further, in the past, they've cruised over Virginia Street to announce their arrival and that always seem to lead to larger crowds.

Snowbirds put NON air race fan butts in the seats. Without those fans, RENO can't survive, there are simply not enough of us... this is also why no other venue has succeeded... sure, WE all go... not enough butts!

They are fun to watch. Years ago when Porsche had their North American HQ here in Reno, they would let us on the roof of 100 West Liberty street so we could watch them.

I would think that would help draw additional people.
