Hotel Advice

Hi,

I'm looking to book my 2nd trip to Reno (first was 2009), my travel agent has offered me the choice of:

Western Village Inn & Casino at the Marina
Circus Circus
Sands Regency

Any ideas on which would be the best? I'll be renting a car so getting around wont be a problem

A lot of folks like Circus Circus. I always stay at the Silver Legacy after Circus Circus added someone else's rooms to my bill and took months to sort it out. But that I am sure wasn't something that happens often.

The Sands would be my last choice. The walk to the main drag can be flat out dangerous.

Circus Circus has easy access to 395N - just go N on Virginia Street and it turns onto 395 to Stead. There are more food choices in Silver Legacy, but it is connected to Circus Circus by walking across the sky bridge onb the 2nd floor. Walking distance to Walgreen's Drug store as well. I usually go through the Sald Office early in the year to negotiate rates for my group.

Circus Circus over the Sands. You'll have a lot better options for food etc. under one roof since Circus the Silver Legacy and the Eldorado are all connected. Western Village....not a big fan.

PS~ The food is at the Eldorado is better than Circus.

1-The Peppermill is a top class (Vegas style) hotel. A little out of the way though for Stead.
2-The Nugget in Sparks is an older but very nice property. The Oyster Bar is my favorite (Pan Roast Combo).
3-The Silver Legacy and Eldorado are downtown and self contained with lots of restaurants and entertainment.
4-The Grand Sierra Resort is the old Hilton/MGM Grand. Out on 395 with easy access to Stead. Former unofficial Reno Air Race hotel under the Hilton flag. New owners took down the racing murals for a more generic cowboy theme. Still a nice place with lots of restaurant options.

The Sands, Circus Circus and The Marina are probably the worst choices in Reno based on just over all condition and amenities. Your travel agent probably looking at bargains and if this is your strategy cuz most of your time will be at the races then anyone of them will be fine.

Since i live in Reno, i would choose Western Village because #1, it's NOT downtown, it's in Sparks, making the Stead commute WAY easier (McCarren to 395n) #2, it's owned by the Peppermill, and basically has the same food, and #3, since it's not downtown it's much quieter during sleeping hours. JMO but that's where i would stay......... P.S. Western Village has recently been remodeled too, so it's a little nicer now also.........

We,ve stayed at most if not all the hotels since our first trip in 1974. We also have made a number of trips to Reno over the years for other activities. Really liked the MGM and the Sunday brunch and the rooms. We started staying at Circus-Circus around 1999. It's a good place with decent prices, good food choices between the 3 casinos on the food court. We like the deluxe rooms in the north tower, easy access to Stead. Like the valet parking and take good care of those guys. This year Circus-Circus ran a week long internet special for rooms the first week of the New Year. We're in for about half of what we usually pay for 5 nights during the races. I also booked rooms then for my wife and bowling team that will be bowling at the nationals in early June. Their rates during the week are $20.00 a night for north tower deluxe rooms, that's $10.00 when sharing a room with two queens, what a deal.

Aahack..... Stayed at the Western Village years ago, at least the part we stayed in (single story).... what a dump!~

Stayed at the Sands and have stayed at Circus Circus now for a couple years.. By far, of those three, it is hands down, the best!

Circus Circus is definately the best of the 3. Actually staying there for 3 days to get away from life starting this weekend. They are running the best deals there for locals right now.
From Circus you have easy access to Legacy, El Dorado, Harrahs and the downtown area (don't go out too late though, can be seedy on the streets nowadays).
Peppermill is beautiful but too rich for my taste. Atlantis and GSR are our usual places to stay, as they are self contained having all you need there.
