Outstanding photos. Love all the early Reno Racers. Keep up the good work.

Hey, who's the guy in the sunglasses in that last picture? Get his butt out of the way. He's blocking the view.

        Nice!
What's the story of #14 out in the weeds?

BCIV and I have been discussing that...because neither of us have heard or read of any incident of E.D. going off runway or anything. But obviously that is an overshoot of some gravity. Perhaps this was a contributing factor to Greenamyer's decision to not want to land at Sky Ranch after the races as required?

If you've ever seen the ABC Wide World of Sports broadcast (parts of which are in the movie Sky High) there is a meeting with a very animated Bill Stead saying "Any pilot worth a damn should be able to get in and out of here with no problem...."

            Makes sense.
I looked in my Kinnert and Tegler books and found nothing.

Darryl would have been killed if one of those skinny Bearcat tires dug in and flipped the airplane over, he would have been trapped inside with no roll over structure. He could not just open the canopy and look either side as well. ED's #14 was pretty stuck also.

There are some real gems in the slides, the guy that took them could have been a great air racing photographer, maybe along the lines of Bucky or Neal. But something else distracted him and that didn't happen. Even though he usually had one of his little German 35MM cameras somewhere.

I have an old Minolta I got in the 70's, all manual and a biotch to operate sometimes. Darn thing STILL takes the best pictures I have ever taken. It took real effort and I loved it. The problem is no more Ektacrome or Kodachrome and that is what I liked to shoot, and good processing got just too expensive. Digital allows me to snap away merrily and hope for the best!

The races at Sky Ranch looked like they could be downright miserable. The slightest breeze...

And yet...I'd give my left leg to have been there just for the experience.

Leo the next time I scan slides I'll scan one Lyle took of the dust storm. Unbelievable, even by Stead standards.
