  • Rare Bear Spinner/ Prop Combo Question

When Rare Bear had the 3-blade P-3 Orion prop, the spinner used was much longer than the spinner she uses now with the 4-blade Skyraider prop. Would there be an aerodynamic benefit to combining the current prop with the old long spinner? It looks like both spinners have the same annular gap between spinner and cowl ring, but the long spinner seems like it would help the Bear cut through the air better. Just some food for thought. Of course the old spinner would have to be modified to hold 4 blades instead of 3.

Re: Rare Bear Spinner/ Prop Combo Question

The profile of the old 3-blade spinner, as I recall, had more to do with blending with the big 'cuffs' on the P-3 blades than aerodynamics.

Re: Rare Bear Spinner/ Prop Combo Question

In the very old days, the idea was to somehow have a four foot long spinner on it, which wasn't feasible at the time.
I always thought that the spinner and prop on the three blader was "mission accomplished" with a high speed propeller and long spinner.
