  • For you Reno Area AAFO'ers

Rumor has it (I live in Seattle so can't speak from authority) that Scolari's Markets in Lemon Valley has removed some, if not all, of their Reno Air Race images and other memoribilia.

Any of you guys and gals in the area been there in recent days and weeks? Was this done shortly after the accident or recently?

Not that it's a indication of anything...just curious. Scolari's is a major sponsor and Joey Scolari sits on the board at RARA. Hopefully it was gesture of homage to Scolaris' customer in the intervening days and weeks.

Not trying to stir anything up...just curious from afar.

Here's to good news on Wednesday!!

    Cheers,

Have you considered that it may have been sold out, rather than merely removed?

Oh, I'm positive believe me. Been sayin' for quite some time we'll be back racing in September. Just thought it was an interesting situation.

As I stated, no negative vibes intended or trying to stir up anything. Just an observation.

You and I and tens of thousands of race fans will be looking for shade at Stead in no time!

        Cheers!

Thanks, Air Judge. You were right to post this. I would be interested if anyone can verify this and verify that the air race art is there or gone from the McDonalds in the same shopping center. Hopefully, if it is gone, it is just carefully stored.....

No I don't live in the Reno area, but I would think Scolari's decorates for air race week, then takes it all down. I love going into Scolari's during air race week because in recent years it is about the only place you can go into and know that the air races are going on. In years past in the whole city of Reno, most every casino or business it was obvious what week it was. I think the casinos don't aknowledge that is air race week because if you not there to attend, they don't want you to leave the casino.

Yeah, very true. Sadly, it's possible the casino's will be a bit more on the PR bandwagon when we return this year...cashing in to some degree on the likely increased public awareness.

I wasn't refering so much to the banners and other marketing materials that I suspect may not stay up throughout the year, or the items for sale. It was more about the artwork and photographs that hang on the walls and such...things that aren't retail items or marketing per se....just air race images and historical stuff that are displayed around the store. Again, I'm only there for 4 days in June for PRS and 10 days in September. No idea what the store looks like in February and October.

              Here's to good news Wednesday.

Not knowing nothin', I would have thought that if the murals were there at PRS and raceweek, they were there all the time. Why store them?
I can certainly see Mr. S and even the McDonalds taking down the artwork at this time as it might have a bad conotation for some and what business person wants that? I remain hopeful.

Re: For you Reno Area AAFO'ers

The murals in the Lemon Vally Scolaries market are a permanent fixture, not a "seasonal deco hung just for the air race week.

I work in Stead and my next shift is Wednesday night. I will stop in on my way to work and check it out. If they have been removed, I will ask why and report my findings back here for all of you.

And it makes complete sense that Scolari's and many other retailers would pull down those types of things in honor of those lost and injured. Absolutely...to do otherwise would be troublesome.

                      Thanks all...

Remove Air Race memorabilia to honor the people that were lost? Seems backwards to me....

I'd say if they are removing Air Race stuff from the walls that they are distancing themselves from the event or the feelings from the accident.

To me it sounds as though RARA is pulling the plug, big press conference, pulling the art work at scolaries.....

Why would the press conference be a "pulling the plug" thing what so ever? When they say that the races are going to continue at the press conference, it will be a straight from the Rara mouth announcement so people like us won't have to guess if the races will go on or not from "what people say".

Not a member of the Reno community but I can understand how images of the races may be painful for many folks. To this day I've not viewed much in the way of video or images...saw it first hand and that's more than enough.

Who knows, if true, perhaps customer were asking them not to display? Could be many reasons.

Bottom line: all speculation and as I said, I'm not there and haven't seen it first hand. Only heard from a reliable source who I trust. Back story is likely much more detailed, as they almost always are.

Still firmly believe we'll hear good news, if not definitve news, regarding 2012. And until I hear otherwise, I'll continue to believe that...
