  • 1990 Air Racing Triva

For the die hard air racing fans I thought I would try and test your memory about the Unlimited Air Races held in 1990. Good luck!

How many Unlimited races were there in 1990?
    Where were they held at?
How many pylons were there on each race course including home pylon?
How many miles was each race?
    Who won each race?

Ah, yes...the great "Air Racing Unlimited" venture....and once again the prinicpals of the sport walking the fine line of "is this a professional sport or a rich-man's hobby?"

Great for the die-hard fans, but not so great on the pocketbooks of the owners and promoters.

There was no race in Kansas, but you are half right, there was a race in Texas in 1990. It was held at the Grayson County Airport in Denison Texas on June 7 -10, 1990.

Strega won Denver and I was there (and so was Wingman!).

              Great Memory!
Yes Strega won the Denver race but who won the Texas race?

Any idea on how many pylons were used at the Denver or Texas race?

Tsunami edged out Strega for its only win. Also Hinton's last race in her.

I've seen photos from the Phoenix races, but I'm really curious as to what the Denver, Texas, and Kansas City races looked like. Does anyone know where I can find some photos from these events? Thanks

Your best bet is to find someone with copies of the ESPN broadcasts of all those races...and yes, they did broadcast them back then.
