  • Is anyone familiar with a Bearcat painted as Blue Angels #1?

I was coming down the stairs of our radome tower Tuesday just in time to see this plane taking off from the Lewis University airport in Romeoville, IL, which is located right next to our office. I've seen several of the Bearcats that are still flying today, but I've never seen this one. Does anyone know who it belongs to? Where they homestead? How long has this particular aircraft been wearing these colors?

The owner is John O'Conner. He's from the Chicago area.

It's been wearing this paint since 2005:

It's a sister ship of sorts to the Gulfhawk IV now under its' second rebuild at Chino. Both were Kaman wind machines.

I also noticed he had the big drop tank installed on the belly. Is that something that's installed for longer trips so he doesn't have to stop to fuel as often?
