  • !979 Mc Clelland AFB open house

I recently uncovered some old photos of myself at the 1979 Mc Clelland AFB open house. As I recall, it took place the weekend before the Reno races. I still have fond memories of the Red Baron, but never got to see her in the air. I was 11 at the time and my uncle took the pictures for me. I dont have any information on the other aircraft shown.

        Brewski,

Brings back memories. I was about the same age then and had just recieved my first 'real' camara, an Olympus OM-1, which I still use. If I might take a guess the plane in picture number 3 is Fertile Myrtle. That's the same B-29 that was used in The Right Stuff and used to fly regularly in Northern California back then. I've attached a pic that was taken the same year, 1979, at the Alameda Naval Air Station Open House.

        Enjoy

        Rick

The P-38 was David Tallichet's (at least in 1975 when I photographed her at Chino), later went to McGuire AFB as I remember.
I can still remember "Myrtle" at the Travis AFB show around then.
