After reading the thread about John Crocker, it got me to thinking about what a great bunch of people are air race pilots. I never met one who didn't take the time to visit with other pilots, ramp-rats, mechanics. I remember one time at Watsonville: a Spanish HA1112 made a beautiful pass down the main, graceful pull up and then greased it in like a Cessna.
Pilot that day was Skip Holm. Talked briefly with him and he was SO enthused about the airplane. Here's a test pilot, multi-time Reno champ, figther jock and he was kind enough to spend time talkin' to this lowly ramp-rat. Crocker was the same way. Hamilton, Dan Martin, Steve Hinton, Bill Destefani...all these guys are the best, friendlist bunch you could ever meet. And the common thread is flight: whether it's a hang-glider or the Space Shuttle..these guys will get the max out of it and be positively bubbly about the flight.
CAVU guys.......you're our heroes.
