  • Peoples choice for a great reason

Just a little news if you haven't heard already. The Huey won the people's choice award at the invitational. That is perfect considering all the help it gave on friday with medical response. I was hoping it would win because all the pilot did to help during Fridays tragedy.

I saw him flying out that day. At the time I knew the pain it carried, when I told my story through out the week to my closest friends that aircraft was the part of the story that brought smiles.

Even though I didn't vote for it, I agree, that is great it won. When I have talked about Friday with people, the chopper has been a sliver of brightness.

I didn't get down to the Heritage area this year. From the seats I did see a Cobra gun ship there, but not the Huey. So you're saying he fired up and helped in the transportation of victims. I certainly hope he gets not only the credit, but also some $$ for his expenses.......who says theirs not some great people out there. Way to Go!!

Oh yea, he fired it up. There were a few photos of him offloading patients at the hospital. I saw the last flight he made out of the incident area with patients. All the emergency responders and others that helped are heros in my book. The response was one of the most impressive things I have ever seen.

I was in the heritage area when the accident occurred, within minutes, the Huey was rolled out, fired up, and I think was one of the first helicopters on the scene loading the injured.

Sunday morning when they gave the NAHI awards, they won the people's choice and were given a special thanks by the organizers. They were given a rousing applause from everyone there and it was a very heart warming moment that I'm very glad to have seen.

Nice work gentlemen! You guys are heroes in my book.

This was a mixed bag for me.

It was great to see the old bird once again playing a role for which she'll always be remembered. But I know at least two Viet Nam vets for whom that sight, and the reason for it, brought back old and painful memories of dust offs from 45 years ago.

BZ to the pilot and crew for stepping up so quickly though.

Has any part of the media noted this, or is that not news which is "interesting" enough?

TV news in Reno mentioned it a few times.

Anyone have an address for them so we could send them a note of thanks?

LiveAirShowTV has posted the complete results that were handed out in a low-key/participants only ceremony last Sunday morning. www.LiveAirShowTV.com and choose the video from the column of videos on the left side of the home page.

We are also working in conjunction with Ron Kaplan of the National Aviation Hall of Fame on a profile of those guys and their heroic actions.
