  • Food for thought

First I want to thank Sandra for her wonderful posts. I wasn't at Reno this year but I got the real story through her and other AAFOers.

None of us want to see the races go away. Today I ran some numbers and they might supply an answer to questions they're asked.

Unlimiteds have been involved in over a hundred racing events but these numbers do not include cross-country, demo races, multi-class races, or any of the British handicapped events like the King's Cup.

    Reno:
    Total Races - 426
    Total Laps - 2748
    Total Distance - 24,418

    The World:
    Total Races - 556
    Total Laps - 3889
    Total Distance - 35,902

This shows the race pilots and RARA are very good. I salute the pilots and RARA should be very proud of their record.

When you look at a google earth shot of the race course and see just how small an area the grandstands actually take up when looking at the overall area of the course it really is a million to one shot that something like this could happen...Your statistics help show just how "nearly" impossible this was...Hopefully cooler heads and logical minds will prevail when decisions are made.
