  • Farewell My Friend: Jimmy Leeward

Both Linda and I are still in complete shock over yesterday's events.

We would like to quote a passage written in this year's race program...

"A special Place. For nearly 50 years, the National Championship Air Races, have served as a world wide celebration of speed, courage and skill..."

Jimmy Leeward exemplified all of this, all the time, and more.... much much more.

He was a true friend to many, a hero to all. We will miss you Jimmy Leeward.

Our prayers and condolences to Jimmy's family and those affected by yesterday's events.

    Blue Skies my friend....

We will have much, much more in the coming days to honor our lost friend.

It's nice to see pictures of Jimmy. They make me smile.

Most of you have probably seen this, but I thought I'd post it anyway. It's a podcast that RARA did, an interview with Jimmy about the Ghost. It made me smile.

Re: Farewell My Friend: Jimmy Leeward

The tributes are coming out now and I've got friends from all over sending them to me.

You will all love this one. It made me cry, but there were teary eyed smiles as well.

Start this one at about 3:30. The first 3 1/2 minutes are of the crash. The rest is of the Ghost in flight, and it's wonderful.

I was really looking forward to seeing Jimmy on the firetruck again this year. I'm sure going to miss that smile.

Farewell on your final flight home Jimmy Leeward. Your air racing fans will miss you and the speed you brought to Reno.

Here's a 3 page article that details some of Jimmys flying experience. It says he's been flying airplanes himself since the age of 11. http://www.sportaviationonline.org/s...on/201105#pg38

Here's a 3 minute video showing Jimmy running the course at Reno with no crash scene:
