Yes its cancelled. I don't think there will ever be another NCAR as we have known it.
Godspeed Jimmy and Godspeed to the poor souls who died or were injured.
They said on the News last night that it was a board call. They said all the pilots voted to go on but the RARA board did not. Doesn't mean the FAA wasn't a factor however.
Mike Houghton said it was canceled in a news interview yesterday. Don't hold your breath. We are having breakfast and are homebound to see my family. God bless.
I think we're talking about two different things here. The races for this year are cancelled. lets wait and see about next year and the future. I agree that it's way to early to call it the end of air racing. Please, let's give the families, friends and fans time to grieve. Reno air racing is certainly about competition, but it's also had a very strong family atmosphere. Let's all think about our extended family and be there for them, instead of calling an end to the event. Just my 2 cents, flame away.
There has been no official call made as to what happens in the future. Once the NTSB and FAA finish their on-site investigation, then RARA can work on how to proceed. Obviously sponsorship and insurance will play a major roll. I personally believe they will continue.
I think the condition of the Reno economy will save the races. The races bring in something like $80mil every year. Reno can't afford to lose that revenue.
And I agree, we and the rest of our "family" need time to grieve before we start worrying about next year.
