I got a note from Nora, Mel's daughter this morning and Mel is feeling better and looks better. Is on dialysis now for his prior Diabetes issues and that's helping as well. We are all praying for his quick recovery. He was planning on trying to come to Reno this year, well see now strong he is as it gets closer to Sept.

                  Get Well Soon, Mel!

Maybe the Bear can loan ya a spare oil filter to use while your kidneys are re-booting, plus maybe a shot or two of nitrous to speed along the recovery!

We really missed you last year and were/are hoping you'll be able to make it this year. Get Well card being purchased and sent on Monday.

Hang in there Mel, we all Love Ya!

UPDATE ON MEL ~ I was sadly informed by Mel's Daughter today that at the wonderful age of 94 he has chosen Hospice care to wind down his final days in peace. We will all miss him dearly, I already do. I will share more information as it becomes available.

                    Solo ;~(

This is a real blow.. Mel is just one of those people who can't ever be replaced. He'll always own a piece of my heart and sadly for her.. BeerNazi REALLY likes Mel and has spent a lot of time chatting with him at Reno. That woman has buried her dad, her brother died in her arms.. she took care of me for a year when she actually thought she was going to lose me too..

Damn Mel... we're going to miss you!

Mel and I go back to 1976 or so. John Slack and I started to put the bearcat back together after the Mojave gear up landing. John and I went to AC&T to talk to Mel about building a new engine. Over the years I developed a deep respect for him and we became friends. Mel was more than happy to put up with a couple of kids who thought they knew everything. Mel taught us a lot and also a bunch of other people who need to come foward and pay tribute to a great man!!
Mel, I love you! Someday we will build another racer.

                              Mel,

They broke the mold, he got to do everything from ranching to racing. Once had the guy next to him riding on a horse struck by lightning. When Lyle started the Bearcat program back in 1968 I was nine years old, When I was ten he took me up to Aircraft Cylinder and Turbine and had me blast some baffles to be painted. Mel showed me how to use the blaster and solvent guns, then the vapor degreaser. (They don't even let adults use those anymore, LOL) When we moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1973, Lyle started dropping me off on summer days at AC&T when I got out of school and I started working with Mel. It was the beginning of the life I would follow.

                              I'll post more later.
