  • Madera Airshow?.....

Anyone know what happened with the May 21-22 2011 Madera Airshow?

    Just heard it was cancelled.

    Politics?
    $?
    Lack of attendance?

    :-(

    I'd guess lack of sponsorship.

I used the search tool of the forum to review a few past threads on the topic of a 2011 Madera show, and all keep mentioning a plea for sponsors in the area....Not easy to do when most of the area is agricultural...

Here's a sample, possibly the most recent: http://www.aafo.com/hangartalk/showt...ghlight=madera

Just upsets me that another cool "thing" falls victim to the valley......

That airshow used to be on of the big ones on the west coast when I was a kid......

My kids certainly would have loved to experience it...

But I also know that it takes bucks to make metal float

      Chandler field was another victim.
They had a cool fathers day show there for a few years.

      Ah he11....

i just posted on the other board...The area has some of the highest unemployment figures in the whole state. Makes no sense to put on a show there at this time. Sad.

          .

Man, you said a mouthful there. Warbird flying displays have always been costly to perform, and right now not as many people can afford tickets, or event the cost of the gas to get to airshow sites not staged nearby.

Speaking of the latter, I fret when I see how much automotive gas has climbed...What has aviation fuel done in the meantime? The big-iron owners must be taking a beating.
