  • Heat 3A from a Voodoo perspective.

    Hey everyone,
Here is Heat 3A where a valve broke ending the race for Voodoo on lap 4. Will did a great job of getting the plane down……… he’s getting too much practice at it!!
This was the second heat race for the Gold racers during the Reno National Championship Air Races. Voodoo with Will Whiteside at the controls was third from the…

P.S. One thing that Will brought up after coming back from that race was the fact that all of his maydays in Voodoo happened in about the same spot.

Awesome and exciting video. Must be a frustating moment when Will had to abandon the race. He was so close. I´m sure Will and Voodoo will make it next year, it looks to be the right combination.
Thank you for posting this nice video.

Jason, thank you for another excellent video.

It's too true that Voodoo is overdue (for some good luck). Nice piece of flying by WW.

              Thanks everyone,
There will be more to follow, this one was put together pretty fast as Will needed some video for a presentation.

Nice work! Getting the shots from inside the plane really tell the story. Thanks for posting that!

Great video... FANTASTIC flying, and great job getting it back together and ready to go for the gold in the final. Team Voodoo impresses me more with each year that goes by. Its GONNA happen....

You did get a peek on takeoff

Not sure if anyone looked closely enough on the video, but that was by far the highest indicated airspeed I have ever seen on telemetry for the start of a race just as they went into pylon 4. 481 IAS! Ground speed was 527mph!

We were looking last night. Can you verify? On left top is:
                          IAS / Actual GS
                          g's

                          Right top is :

You are correct for the top left. One should not to read too much into the ground speed, unless it is in generally straight and level flight. Commercial gps receivers are not intended for 3+ g's and at those speeds. The internal filtering often gives some over or under represented speeds and data.

Some engine data appears top right. Items such as RPM, MAP, Induction temp, oil pressure/temp and coolant temp.

Overlaying the data on the video gives a good understanding of what is going on with a picture, so we can later go back and correlate it with graphs or other data, if necessary.

Did anyone else notice that in some situations the front of the canopy seems to open a tiny bit across the top? Maybe it's the way light is hitting it tho??

Great job on the Mayday Will!
