  • T-6's Landing Downwind?

Can't remember if it was Friday or Saturday, the wind was blowing, I'd quess 15-20 and after one of the T-6 races, all the aircraft landed downwind. The T-6 that was giving rides lost it and almost ground looped. I only saw him as he recovered, and ran off the runway, I don't know if the wind had anything to do with it.......but why was ATC having these guys land downwind? Anyone that has flown a tailwheel airplane knows that a quartering tailwind is about the worse enviorment, windwise you can land in. I'm surprised the pilots didn't request another runway. Just my observation.

When they were recovering the T-6's, it was basically calm. A big thermal came in from the south and all hell broke loose. Halfway down the runway, the dust devil came in and created the quartering tailwind, the pilots commented that it was just luck that more aircraft didn't exit the runway! Good job you guys!
