  • P38's & the Tigercats

The announcers said today that there will be a demo flight with the 2 38's and both Tigercats this weekend... on the course! (not racing). This will be an awesome sight and sound! Not sure what time it will be. It may be after racing ends tomorrow afternoon. Anyone have additional info?

I only heard that they were towing them out in front of the Start/Finish line for a photo op. But I'm not there, just got that from the live internet feed.

We waited around the ramp until about 5:50. Both Lightnings were towed out and fueled up. Both Tigercats were refueled after the race and towed over near them. We talked to a crew member in the Glacier Girl pit who said that he was told they were going to fly them. We had to leave so I don't know whether or not they ever did fly.

They did fly. We saw them as we were leaving the Checkered Flag Club after the spaghetti dinner and guest speakers. It was starting to get dark.

23 Skidoo took off and left the area. The Tigercats and GG took off and flew off together, then Skidoo returned, made a nice pass and landed. We left about 6:30, before the others returned.

Very nice four ship of T'cats and P-38's down 26 and break to landing just before local twilight. WOW

All four planes were airborn by 6:15 and returned by 7:10 with their landing lights on. It was worth the wait. There were up to 4 P-51s, 2 T-6s, the Herc and some jet racers all flying after 6pm. Wow!

I know some Tigercats made it to the Pacific just after the war. Anyone know if they ever tussled with the Air Corps guys in their P-38's and how they compared?
