The correct statement should be "I have never seen the Bear take off with the canopy CLOSED."

That dates back to the installation of the small canopy in 1972, and Lyle's time flying Skyraiders...which had no ejection seats. Make the takeoff and landings with the canopy open, that way if you have an accident, you can get out. Lyle instilled that same habit on Penney.

Wierd. That makes a lot of sense, and I dont disbeleive you, but I have been going for 27 years and that picture looked really odd to me.

Nice pics Wayne! Voodoo's prop looks dangerously close to hitting the tarmac. Is that attitude normal? Strega is pretty close too.

AHHH, that makes sense.

Now that I look at the picture again the fact that the gear are not retracting and the angle of attack should have made that obvious!

The Bear takes off like an F-18!
