  • Engine managment

I so very much want to make it to Reno this year. I have a question. During an unlimited race are they pretty much running all out full throttle for the entire race or do they actualy have to throttle it back once in a while?

I think there are a lot of variables here. Are they ahead far enough to cut back, how is the engine running, is it having any signs that something might go wrong, can I keep the lead, or place, by using less than full throttle? I think I read that at last years races Steve Hinton Jr. didn't use full throttle on Strega because Tiger wanted to save as much unnecessary wear and tear on the engine as possible. He was far enough ahead of second place that he could win without really pushing it.
Again, these are just my opiniions, and don't really have any fact to back it up.

Wow. I could write a book on that question. Lots of stories by many on this forum. I remember one unlimited pilot had a saying "Go or Blow" & another supposedly had a notch when it was wide open & he had to overide it to cut power. No names.

This pretty much sums it up.

They go as fast as they need to(or can) to win.
