  • Space Shuttle twilight launch, STS 109, 3 min video link.

    Text from the link:

Recorded in Titusville, FL approximately eleven miles away from the launch pad, this shows the launch from the closest view point possible outside of Cape Canaveral.

    and here's the link:

Take a look at how bright it is and how the lighting and colors change when it passes through the cloud layer. Very interesting.

It must be nice to live nearby and take advantage of such a sight.

If you've never seen a launch from the Cape, I HIGHLY recommend putting it on your bucket list...and fast! You can sign up for advance tickets on the KCS website to get closer than this vantage point...but go you must!

It is an absolute rush to the senses!

Visit NASA's launch complex, the astronaut hall of fame, or see a rocket launch all just an hour from Orlando at Kennedy Space Center.

We tried twice The second time they cancelled 5 hours before launch. We really want to see it, but it's tough from the West Coast.
I'm sure it's awesome live though, and Kennedy is worth the trip.

Listen to the "Whoosh" sound that occurs at 39 seconds when the 3 engines light up.

Is it fair to say that's the most powerful motorized vehicle built?

No, the Saturn V,s used in the Apollo project were way more powerful, the Ruskies had the Energia engines that were also way more powerful. It would be fair to say that they space shuttles engines are the most powerful reusable rocket engnes in use today.
          Hope that helps.
