232 was sold to Rod Lewis, Who has most of his attention focused on Rear Bear.

Does anyone know of what Rod Lewis, plans are for this beautiful all out racer? Sad to just see it sit with all the effort made to make it a gold winner.

maybe Mr. Brown will miss racing, and work up a deal with Rod Lewis to rent 232 for the week. it would be a great story.

Certainly would! Don't know if Rod is interested in fielding another race plane and crew who directly compete with one another. Although it is standard operating procedure in car racing, not sure if it translates well into NCAR. Mike Brown did field three planes, but they ultimately competed at three different levels. They weren't necessarily competing head to head. My bet is Rod sells her in the next year and she races in 2010 with a new owner. That would be a great story too!

If 232 is sold and races again, I'm inclined to believe it will be racing without the slow nose.
            No pixels were harmed, honest.

The same thing can be said about the only remainning Griffon Mustang.

Agreed. Won't be the same without Big Bossman, Pops, and Sept. Fury this year. Also -- sure miss hearing the unique sound of Precious Metal rounding the pylons. Although the appearance this year (fingers crossed!) of Galloping Ghost will help ease the pain!

I need to start lurking on these sites again. I hadn't heard Mike sold 232. Maybe the next racer to own 232 will put the long wings back on. I've heard it said that it would fly faster laps with the stock wings. It would be great to see that statement proved or disproved.

I heard the same thing about 232's speed. A quote from an Unlimited Gold winning crew chief, "If you want to slow a Sea Fury down, clip it's wings." If you compare speeds from the year before they flew with the shorter wings, it's faster.

There are only three Sea Furies (that I know of) in which clipped wings were tried on. One of them actually went faster. The other two shared the same panel configurations and there was not a definitive scientific comparison made on these efforts.

Perhaps one day all of this will be proved or disproved, but things are not always what they seem on the exterior.
