  • Scratching an itch...

In 35 years of hanging around Warbirds I've had my share of neat rides -- in everything from an SF-260 to a B-17, but I'd never had a Mustang ride. At the Paul family's excellent Warbird gathering last weekend, I finally scratched that itch.

My thanks to Dan Vance for a most memorable experience!

      Thanks!

So what could be better than soaring around the Idaho skies in a Mustang? How about another Mustang bobbing along 60 feet away? Diamondback came up to play a bit on the way back to its nest in Boise...

Congratulations Neal! I'm sure it was something you'll remember for the rest of your life.

Well, the only problem is that now that I've done it, it was so cool that now I wanna do it again!

This really is a lovely bird -- and in really good hands. Mark flies beautiful formation -- I was quite surprised to find he has no military background...

                    Well sort of...

My understanding is that the owner of Stiletto discarded most of the interesting parts of the airplane, had a mostly new Mustang built up using some usable stock pieces from the Racer -- fittings and forgings and such -- and applied the paperwork from Stiletto.

                    A sad story...

                      Nice shoots!

I notice the longer canopy on Daimondback.

                      It's a TF-51 correct?

                      Who did the restoration?

                        Outstanding Neal,

You told me about some of your other rides but I'm sure this will remain as one of you best, and you got the good pictures to go along with it. When I took my ride, I left the camera on the ground so I didn't have any distractions. I'll never do that again! However I do have a picture someone took while Birgitta was taking a picture of me on the ground so all is not confined just to memory.

                        Best wishes, Ken
