  • Searching for Bluffman...

Hello. I'm brand new to this forum and I found it totally by accident, but I am left dumbfounded at what I have discovered here! I was looking for info on the "Blind Man's Bluff" race plane from '87 and googled it, and here I am! The reason I was interested is that I am one of the Levolor truck drivers (female) who was involved in helping transport the goods to Reno for that race. I've been reading the old posts from '07, realizing that "Bluffman" was the main man at the hangar in Scottsdale and that I just have to contact him after all these years! If any of you are able to reach him and let him know that I'm anxious to talk to him, I'd sure appreciate it. I left a personal message for him, but as far as I can tell, he hasn't posted here for a while. I am so excited at this discovery, I can't believe it! If anybody can help me out, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, Wayne. That would be great, as long as you think he won't mind. I wouldn't want to invade his privacy... but I'd sure like to catch up after all these years. I appreciate it.

          Hi Wolfee...
I'm afraid my trucking days are over. I sold my truck and gave it all up in 1992. I've been running flag car/escort for oversize loads ever since. Those Levolor days were some of the best of my life. That's why I was astounded at running across this place! It's like it was yesterday. I ran my butt off though, hauling engines for Blind Man's Bluff back and forth from Scottsdale to Hondo, TX so they could be run on the dyno. When we were ready to go to Reno, they had me go to San Antonio and haul a load of 55 gal. drums of that wonderful alcohol mixture to run the plane. Talk about a rolling bomb! Ahh, such memories. Thanks for your reply!

Blugrascat, Would you believe that I am writing and editing that period of time that you were trucking engines to Hondo, and I think that might have been nitromethane in those 55 gallon drums! Even more of a "rolling bomb" than alcohol. If you get a chance, send me some of your memories of those days so I can add it to the book.

                Re: Searching for Bluffman...

Thanks a bunch, Musntchit, for the help locating this guy! I never knew anybody who had as much drive and determination when it came to getting a project completed!

Bluffman... I cannot believe that I have stumbled across this forum and YOU, of all people, after all these years! I am like a giddy little kid remembering all the great times during those Levolor years. I was just sick when they let all of us drivers go. I've never had a job since then that I enjoyed as much. As far as my memories, that's about all I have to go on. I never thought to take very many pictures of those events back then. I do have a short video that I made of BMB at Reno when Skip was doing his thing. I never had a clue what planes were all about and that was my very first experience even being around them. It was great!

I don't know how many engines I must have taken to Hondo for dyno...I'm thinking at least 6. You are right about the nitromethanol...that's what it was, I'm sure and I was mortified the whole way back to Scottsdale hoping some jerk wouldn't cause a wreck. Coming through Deming, NM, some clown pulled off the shoulder right out in front of me and I had to take the left lane and part of the median to avoid hitting him. Man, the dust and rocks flew and everything about went black it scared me so bad. I knew if that trailer exploded it would wipe Deming off the map! Fortunately, I got it to the hangar OK.

It's a shame that things turned out the way they did because it was my understanding that Eric had plans to get Joanne to fly that black and orange beast and he was going to put a transporter truck together and he was thinking about having me drive it. He had said that the reason he wanted a female team was that men couldn't sell window blinds!! It broke my heart when all of that fell apart, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Wow! I didn't mean to get to rambling on about all that stuff...I've just been flooded with memories of all those great times. Thank you so much for responding to my post. Are you still living in the Phoenix area? I don't get out there very often, but if I do, I'd like to look you up! Thanks again!
