  • Higher living costs hurting the foundations?

The annual B-24/B-17/P-51 visit is happening this weekend (Wings of Freedom Tour), yet I have only seen the B-17 and P-51 fly by twice so far all weekend.

Normally I'd see the B-17 and the B-24 fly overhead at least once per hour or so. Could the economy be so bad that nobody is seeking $400 rides this year? Bad news for warbird owners who depend on such fees to get by...

when they came to Beaumont they were wanting a little more than $400
.. I think it was like $2500 or something like that...

If this is the same group,

so you live in liver gulch!
      not silly-con valley
out here in bentwood we had 1 flyby on Monday.
2200$ for 1/2 hr backseat of p-51 is steep.
your lucky to be so close to the airfield
      Collin's foundation's plane's don't come out to Bryon.

If this is the same group,
Would that be maybe for the backseat of a fighter, rather than one of the crew seats on the bombers?

Costs more to produce backseat rides, so more to put back into the Collings Foundation opearting budget for a given year.

A ride in the backseat of a Mustang is priceless. Pony up the money and tell those less fortunate about the ride.

The $425 is for the bombers, and the Mustang is $2200 for a half hour and $3200 for a full hour. Remember, that a single engine fighter is not cheap to operate, and you'll find that the prices at Stallion 51 aren't much different. At least this Mustang comes to you, instead of you having to go to it.

Nope, I'm valley-folk, just a couple miles from Moffett Federal Airfield (formally Moffett Naval Air Station).

Looks like the group went to Livermore (Liver Gulch? Ye-haa!) on the 23rd. Hope they got more business over there.

Usually they fly right over my home in San Ramon - Near camp Parks. In 2 days I only heard them fly over a few times which its usually non stop. I figured they had a different route this year.

Looking forward to see them in Pasco right after I get back from PRS.
Aluminum Overcast was in Seattle for a week. Sold losts of merchandise, and many rides, including the jackets for having been on the flight. A number of the rides were vets, given the ride by their families.

On one of the Aluminum Overcast flights was a guy whose wife bought him the $425.00 ride, the $185.00 jacket, and all kinds of little trinkets for him and their kids. This was his BD present. Nice wife, huh? She kept pointing out other trinkets , he would say "too much", and she would say "if you want it, get it". He was one happy camper when he left. So were we, because our "pay" was a percentage of what we sold.

Hope nobody takes this wrong, but the economy is only bad for those who it is bad for. Lots of folks kept their jobs, were not needing or wanting to sell their devalued homes and, frankly, some have even "profited" from the plummet in interest rates.

Point being, some folks still are OK, probably MOST folks are OK. My neighbor, who is a small businessman, told me the other day, "if I didn't watch the news, I would not know there is a problem in the economy"..

Anyway, not to drag this off topic.. oh yea, that was the topic.. My point is only that there are folks who still can spend (wish I was one of them )

Did that years ago...that's why I can afford the ride today.
