Herd an unconformed rumor and was asked if any one else has herd aynthing? Don't know? Just asking for a friend. :dunno:Hummn...

Got an email query out, kind of makes sense what with all the $$ Robert spent making TOR... That and I believe they have another F2G under restoration..

Would be sad to not see it round the pylons again...

I think he got hold of Cook Clelands F2G for rebuild & is presently doing that? :dunno:

Technically, Race 57 was a Cook Cleland airframe as well. From what I understand, Race 74 was bought by another gentleman, with Bob doing the work.

Could someone have their 4360's (perhaps Furias) confused?Could be that Jim, or it could be the same sort of thing that happened last week with the "Hoot" demise rumor.. someone else with that call sign passed, so that fact was picked up by *someone* and in the pursuit of the "story" the rumor was started..

If I'm reading my Tarot cards correctly, the other F2G in Robert's inventory WAS sold, a while ago, that fact may now have gained a life of its own and a new "story" could have developed out of it...

This should clear up some confusion and replaced it with fogginess http://warbirdregistry.org/corsairregistry/f2g-88457.html the serial number for this recently sold acft is 88457 Race 84. Race 57's serial number is 88458 according to wikipedia.

Race 57's N number is the link above though, and last time I checked Arizona was not in North Dakota, so on the surface, it looks like it has been sold. Ron Pratt buys muscle cars like kids buy candy, now it seems he is getting into WWII fighters after buying the P-51 Red Dog a couple of years ago. The guy spent just over $5 million to buy one of Shelby's Cobra's in 2007.

Whatch the auction on SPEED starting tonight. Mr. Pratt will be buying more than a few cars. You may not see him until the Fri or Sat show when the big iron rolls across the auction block though.

What I'm hoping is that *if* the airplane has been sold, it's just a shifting of assets by Robert.

But.. if we discuss that line of thought much further, we're digging into someone's personal finances a lot deeper than I'd like to have us doing here..

I've got an email into Robert, if he chooses to answer it, and gives me permission to share what he says, I'll bring it here...

The linked info in the FAA database shows RACE 57 LLC as the applicant with an address in Chandler AZ. A Google Earth check of the address shows what appears to be an upscale home in a new(er) development. A search for "Odegard" in AZ comes up with at least one in Chandler. I guess we shall wait and see.

I received an email response from Robert earlier tonight...

"It is true!!! I was offered a deal that only comes along once in a couple life times, I still get to fly it!!!! It is going to the most beautiful museum I have ever seen. It is here in Chandler AZ.

We are also doing another super Corsair ,Race 74, in Kindred that should fly by the end of summer that I can fly anytime I want. Also, I will have the time and resources to finish our other Corsair, an F4U-4 that I started on before Halley (our Daughter) was born, she now is 22 years old and I have'nt finished the plane yet. The average person doesnt believe how much time and money these things take."

A very special thanks to a very special man for bringing so much joy to us during the year's he's flown this airplane! At Reno and everywhere else he's flown it!

Thank you Robert Odegaard!

Robert is such a great guy.. I'll never forget the first time I saw the airplane in Oshkosh and Robert invited me up on the wing to take a closer look.. told me the entire story of how Cook got the airplane from the Navy... Just a really really neat guy!

That this will both fund his current and future projects, and give him more time to get them done.. well, something tells me, this is only the beginning of the beginning for Robert and company!

So does he just collect or do you think he might be interested in fielding a team. There are some pretty fast planes for sale.

Don't know. I was watching SPEED last night, and he has a front row seat reserved at the auction. He was not on TV last night. Watch the auction on Friday and Saturday, he gets a lot of on screen time. I have never heard him say a word on TV though.

As of a couple of weeks ago the airplane was on display in the CAF Arizona Wing hangar/museum. Although a nice place to visit I really don't think it qualifies as the "the most beautiful" and it is in Mesa, not Chandler. Maybe AZ is getting a new Museum we don't know about yet?

Ron pratt just bought a 1929 ford tri star at Barret Jackson. His buys a lot of classic cars for a private collection. I heard from a friend of mine at Stellar field in chandler az. His collection will be there. Hopefully public, at least I live just of the flight path.

Since mr. Pratt dosn't seem to have a shortage of money maybe he could get a sheet metal wiz to make a more correct cowling/scoop for race 57. They could copy race 74's.

I have another idea how the new owner can spend his money on his airplane that is none of my business. The outer wing panels on #57 are F4U-4 units. The origonal wings are with a -4 project GERRY BECK sold a few years ago. Would be nice to see the wings re-united. And make a historic airplane that much more complete.

If I recall, having discussed this topic with several of the primaires involved in the Planes of Fame racer, the Corsair wing was somewhat speed limited and tended to want to pitch nose-down at the higher speeds. I suppose Steve Hinton would be the guy to ask, since he got that plane moving faster than any of the post-war F2G\'s, and turned in the Super Corsair\'s fastest average speed in it\'s career.

In fact, this was the main reason Frank Sanders decided to build Dreadnought. He did the chase plane duty in 924 and watched the Super Corsair pull away from him easily. He knew that the Sea Fury had a much better wing, and thus would make a faster aircraft on the race course.

I had heard that the wing was too "slow" and was the limit to the POF Super Corsair's potential. For years I have lobored under the knowledge that the wing on the F2G was redesigned with a faster airfoil. Now I can find nothing to back that up. Anyone have the knowledge? I would like to be corect on it.
Was it a faster airfoil or just a big motor on the front?

I believe they did replace all the fabric surfaces with metal.

As I remember, the airfoil was the same in all Corsair models.

Very well could be. When the Chino boys built up Super Corsair, one wing (if I recall correctly) was from an F4U-4, the other from an F4U-7, and the fuselage was an FG-1D.

They all seemed to fit together okay.

It would be extremely cool to see both of them round the course, just cruising together for the nostalgia, not trying to break.
For that matter, with so many replicas of famous race planes out there, a "parade" of some of them would be neat. Imagine a Mystery Ship, Turner-Laird, Gee Bee, Goon, etc. all out there rounding the pylons showing us a glimpse of what was.
