When G'd up the tailwheel doors open up a bit... That's got to be significant. Anything else ?

        Good eye!

Good eye Neal... I don't have the advantage of having any good belly shots full size of Dago at speed from this year and did miss that.. Now what are we looking for on PM?? Looking at all the shots I've got and at the POTW, I don't see what I'm looking for..

              Outisder observations

Just an observation from an outsider, but....

In the photos of Dago, aside from the tailwheel doors "leaking" at speed, is the position of the radiator exhaust scoop unusual (i.e., not open very far at all - look at Mark Johnston's photo)? And what is the white spot roughly at the location of the hinge for the exhaust scoop?

As for PM, look closely at the contour of the fuselage just in front of the tailwheel doors, where the belly scoop fairs in. The airframe appears to be modified so that there is always an opening there and the plane can be run at speed with the scoop closed completely or only slightly open. By looking at old pictures, I think this was done at the time the wings were painted green.

              Any comments?

                MA II vs. PM's Cooling

It never seemed that MA II's cooling door was very far open compared to PM's while at speed. Why does PM's have to be open so much more? I do recall that MA II's crew blew out the radiator -- seems it had a bunch of gunk in it. Peas
