  • Pure Racer

Let's start a thread that discuss all the racer aspects of what could be and what might be possible.

    1. Concepts

    2. Powerplants

    3. Materials

    4. Safety

#1. Includes aerodynamical innovations and power to weight ( wingloading ) issues and new traditional or radical lay-outs.

#2. Handles more down to earth power issues..transmission, prop, cooling, adi etc.

#3. Is all about the aspect how to get the thing lite and durable to withstand all the stresses in a plane.

#4. Among other things; How to bail out if something goes wrong, glideratio, e-seat vs. recovery chute etc.

So all in all.....for instance ....like my TS II in this way:

    1. It is intented to go mach 0.75..via wingsweep ( nearly symmetrical thin foil ) and jetlike one piece elevator and lotsa streamlining and enermous power to weight ratio.

    2. Due to small size it would use large dia 2 blader prop and Mustang style radiator.

    3. Wooden structure ( like Mossie; http://www.leaky-boat.cz/Mosquito.htm ). To keep it lite and smooth.

    4. Parachute/firewall/22 G loaded fuse structure and wings up to 15 G:s. Feathered 2 blader prop could be eazily handled in a dead stick landing. Metal parts where they are needed in case of fire.

    cheers

    Re: Pure Racer

Just to find out will this division above help designer I'll take an example..here is an architect ( like me ) designed AC..that never took off.

Any idea why not ? ( this is also discussed in finnish site )

I think it is too much a compromise. It does look very futuristic !!!

To make a flying car you have to be Molt Taylor !

      Re: Pure Racer

The CONCEPT is most important of all.

I have used a YAER to develop a plane that could fly 520 kilometres with a gallon of fuel. Innovation was a duck landing on a river. Theoretically on a papper it should work. But I have also flown a uni ski r/c model in 1990 so I know this principle in some details work excellent ( so this is not 100% imagination but based on experience ).

Like I developed my racer design years and made many alterations. I also did the same with this economical single seater testplane that I hope to fly some day.

I think I have achieved my goal. This is still a trade secret so I will not show everything yet. I could also develop it into a racer with 50 hp engine, but this is more in the 15-25 hp niveau.

Any help would be appreciated with this..( if you believe it's gonna fly and would like to know more..please contact ).

You can clearly see how concentration has brought me quite far. I thoroughly think all moves that I do ( ..more or less ). The twin Idea I had to abandon since it is very expensive to do a twin and you need a multiengine lisence to fly it etc.

I came pretty close to what I originally drew, but size is 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 depends how you wanna look at it ( scale, area, cubature ).

Many thanks for the generous comments from Locheed Bob, Francis C etc. Also people in Finland have helped ( albeit the three sites that locked the topics this was being handled at ) so all those folks visiting here..I wanna thank you too.

Next will be the ( flying....hopefully ) r/c model. With it I will test the structure to some extent. Cannot wait to get in to it.

        Re: Pure Racer

Here is an excellent example of a pure concept "racer".

A 100% lifting body fighter the Flying Pancake !

I love the idealism behind it.

        And it flies well...I have read...as a model ( V-173 flew too ).

        The XF5U-1;

        Topspeed 504 mph ( using 0,55 hp/kg ) !

More this genre planes here: http://www.twitt.org/

This nearly stops my heart everytime; http://www.twitt.org/BLUMENTHAL.htm#JERRYDREAMS
