in the year 1983 an F-15 of the Israeli airforce collided with a skyhawk while doing a practice. the skyhawk blew away but the pilot abandoned it peacefully....
Ok, that was a fake, but this just happened and was pretty amazing. If you click on the audio and read the story it's pretty interesting. Nobody realizes that this guy went blind and yet are able to talk him through a landing. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/7717206.stm
The F-15 story is a good one, but my favorite is when Neil Williams, British aerobatic champion, and noted author had a moment back in 1970.On a practice flight, and not wearing a parachute, a structural failure in his Zlin left him in the uncomfortable position of only being able to control the aircraft while in negative g. Sorry, no photos , or video, but his rather stiff-upper-lip description of the flight is remarkable. Fly the plane first!
