Steve Hinton Reno win anniversaries- Sept 17

It was 30 and 20 years ago today:


Sept 17, 1978- Steve Hinton wins his first of his two Reno championships in the Red Baron.

Sept 17, 1988, Steve Hinton wins the gold heat race on saturday, and turned what was then a record lap of about 470 MPH. That was a crazy mayday filled event. I really thought Tsunami was going to whip everybody the next day...but then in the gold the ADI failed and the airplane only finished top 5 and The Bear won it's first Gold race in 23 years.

I wasn't there in 78...so please share any memories or pics of these two races.

There was some really cool air to air and a commercial steve did for Pennzoil featuring the Red Baron in Phil Wallick's movie last sat night... great stuff to see. I later realized Steve was sitting right in front of me. I would have loved to have seen the looks on his face...I think everybody there had never seen that footage.
