Re: Air Tanker down near stead, Crew lost!

I am deeply saddened and in shock.

It is now being reported that it was the Lockheed P2V that went down. My thoughts and prayers to their friends and families.

I can only guess that with the air races starting next week that they wanted to make sure that people knew that the accident wasn't related to the upcoming events at Stead.

On a brighter note, I was quite impressed with the P2V. I had never seen one up close before and it left quite an impression on me. My thoughts also go out to Neptune Aviation of Montana. Some of their crew had stopped by to check out the Bear today when a hold had been on further tanker operations (not related to mechanical issues).

A tribute to those lost today...these pictures were taken earlier in the day when they were headed out to the fire south of Lake Tahoe.

                MMP,
Was it 09 that went down? I had seen her a couple times during the day fly over. When it happened we saw the smoke and lost power for about an hour.
Blue skies to the crew and families.

                          Moment of Silence

These men and women are involved in a war with the toughest opponent on the earth. Mother Nature and all her power.

I'd like to ask everyone that we *somehow* have a moment of silence while at RENO for all who leave on missions to protect and do not return .. Any ideas on how to make something like this happen?

Weel, who the announcers work for? Who puts the program together???
Don't you suppose if you mentioned it nicely to RARA that it could be arranged??? Or maybe already in their plans?
After 9-11, they had a full ceremony of remembrance, and they did also last year for the racers who perished in the accidents.
Jes sayin' RARA aint the bad guys,ya know.

My condolences to the crew's friends and family. Flying air tankers is a tough business.

We lost a couple crews, a C-130 and a PB4Y2, out of Santa Barbara in the years before they closed the base down.
                              No pixels were harmed, honest.
